The utilization of MFCs extends beyond electricity generation; it offers an opportunity to address pressing environmental concerns such as wastewater treatment and resource recovery. By employing microbial communities in these fuel cells, it is possible to simultaneously achieve electricity production while mitigating the adverse effects of organic waste on the environment. Additionally, MFCs can potentially play a vital role in remote or off-grid areas, providing an independent and decentralized power source.
